What inspires alex&er ?

Fine Art and Architecture

We often look to The Arts when we are designing a new collection and we tend to prioritise one practice per series of jewellery. Architecture has been a focal aspect for the design of the ‘Structural Functionalism’ collection, particularly Modern Architecture. There is a clear resemblance between the Courage pendant and the helix-like structure of a spiral staircase for example. Archways, structural forms and floorpans were all consumed and digested in our research before we settled on the final pendant designs, hence the strong, definitive forms.

Mastery

Many brands simply show off their finished products, leaving the customer with little knowledge of the process behind their pieces; our brand goes beyond this. We question the source of our food, the material of our clothes, so why shouldn’t it be the same for the quality of our jewellery?

At Alex&er, we go beneath the surface and offer the audience what they we think they would like to see. From sourcing 925 silver and 9ct gold, it being manipulated, soldered and polished from start to finish. Take this four-part journey to immerse yourself behind the scenes, walk through the workshop, sit at the bench with Jackie, see the transition from rough to mirror-finish and witness the form become reality.

Ethos

CREATIVITY, IN ALL ITS FORMS, SHOULD BE CELEBRATED. WE BELIEVE THAT ART AND DESIGN HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE WORLD THROUGH CHALLENGING AND IMPROVING HOW WE LIVE AS A SOCIETY. WE LOOK TO EMBODY WORDS AND LITERACY IN OUR JEWELLERY AND OUR IMAGERY. POWER, INTELLIGENCE, AND COURAGE PLAY DOMINANT ROLES IN THE MEANING OF ALEX&ER FOLLOWING THROUGH TO THE MORE DELICATE SIDE OF THE BRAND WHERE WE FIND INSPIRATION IN LOVE, HAPPINESS AND BEAUTY.

Workshop

We are extremely proud of our workshop (often compared to Geppetto's workshop from Pinocchio) this is where we convert our two dimensional  drawings into three dimensional items of silver or gold jewellery.

Based in the Peak District, the Alex&er workshop is formed on a wealth of experience. We have a talented team of silversmiths’ and jewellers creating our beautiful jewellery, managed and quality checked by the award-winning designer/silversmith Jacqueline Harold.

Every piece is handmade to order to the highest standard reflecting the quality of the design.

Finally; the logistics and management of Alex&er is run from the heart of Central Manchester where we ensure that all orders are processed and distributed nationally and as quickly as possible with the care and attention they deserve.
