Fine Art and Architecture
We often look to The Arts when we are designing a new collection and we tend to prioritise one practice per series of jewellery. Architecture has been a focal aspect for the design of the ‘Structural Functionalism’ collection, particularly Modern Architecture. There is a clear resemblance between the Courage pendant and the helix-like structure of a spiral staircase for example. Archways, structural forms and floorpans were all consumed and digested in our research before we settled on the final pendant designs, hence the strong, definitive forms.
Painting fed the inspiration behind the latest jewellery collection: Graphically Manipulated Organisms. A fifteen-piece series of strikingly majestic paintings was created over a 2 year period to explore ways of symbolising the 3 main attributes we desire; power, beauty and intelligence. The idea of ‘wearing art’ is born from these paintings and the wearer can now be reminded of their power, beauty and intelligence by a glance to the wrist. Some find pleasure in collections. Having both a piece of art work combined with a transformative piece of jewellery on the body, allows art to be mirrored not only in the comfort of one’s home but in their life beyond closed doors.
